I’ve made these images using the Aestheticam app, which transforms any photo you take into glitch art (or vaporwave art). I discovered this style when I was researching the artist Chrissie Abbott; it is based on nostalgia for old computer software; artwork often features technology icons and dated aesthetics. As it says in the name, in glitch art the image is often disrupted and repeated, similar to a computer when it freezes or goes a bit crazy and everything on the screen goes a bit off. The app applies this effect to any photos you take, it is cheap and cheerful – you can’t edit photos you’ve already taken and the effect is completely random, but I like the outcome. It’s an easy way to produce images in this style without any knowledge of design software.
